Library Friends
All of the libraries in Wayne County have friends.... Four of the libraries in the county also have Friends.
What’s the difference?
Library Friends are independent non-profit groups established separately from a library. They have their own board, officers, and financial reporting. Generally speaking, the mission of all Friends groups focus on encouraging support for libraries, advocating for libraries, and stimulating interest in and use of libraries.
Friends groups are open to everyone. People who join a Friends group are interested in strengthening the role of the library in the community, enhancing the library’s value as a vital resource, and contributing personally to an organization they believe in. Once you become a member, there are many ways to be involved, such as paying your membership dues, writing your local legislator, working at a fundraising event, or helping organize library programs.

Even if your library doesn’t have a Friends group, you can still be a friend to your library. All of the libraries need volunteers to help in many different ways, at fundraising events, behind the circulation desk, providing programs such as computer tutoring, and in other ways. Contact the library director at your local library to ask how you can help.
